BISMARCK -- The WDA girls' fastpitch softball poll is out, and Dickinson is again the pick to win this year’s conference title, according to coaches.
The Midgets received 78 points and six first place votes to take the top spot. Defending state champion Minot was second in voting with 70 points and three first place votes. Century was third with 65 points and one first place vote. Bismarck High was fourth with 62 points. There was little separation in the middle of the pack. Jametown was fifth in voting with 42 points. Legacy and Mandan both received 41 points to tie for sixth. Williston was eighth with 22 points. Newcomer Watford City was ninth with 20 points and TMCHS Belcourt finished in 10th with nine points.
Teams received nine points for a first place vote; eight points for second place; seven for third place; six for fourth place; five for fifth place; four for sixth place; three for seventh place; two for eighth place and one point for ninth. Coaches did not include their teams in voting. The annual poll was conducted by Matt Mullally, WDA executive secretary.
The conference is back to 10 members with Watford City joining play. The Wolves were a perennial contender at the Class B level for state tournament appearances. Dickinson is the two-time defending conference champion while Bismarck High is the two-time defending West Region Tournament champion. Teams will play a single round robin doubleheader schedule, weather permitting. The West Region Tournament will be hosted by Dickinson, May 23-25. The Class A Tournament is hosted by Minot, May 30-June 1.
