*This was the 47th season of WDA/West Region competition. *Century won its seventh WDA title and second in a row. *Williston won its fifth Class A title and second straight. *The WDA took three of the top five spots at the state meet (1. Williston; 2. 4. Bismarck High). *A WDA team has won the state title every season since 2003. *Century junior Ruby Ihmels won the WDA and Class A state titles. She became the first Patriot runners to win back-to-back titles. *Century’s Jillian Lemar was region and state senior athlete of the year. *Century’s Kate Fox was WDA and state coach of the year. *Fourteen WDA runners, representing four teams (Bismarck High, Century, Minot High and Williston) finished in the top 20 to earn all-state honors. *Bismarck High, Century, Legacy, Minot High, Watford City and Williston all won regular season meets. *Five different runners led Mandan in scoring at meets this season. *Minot North runners competed with Minot High. *Dickinson changed its nickname/mascot to Mavericks from Midgets. *Williston hosted the WDA championships for the first time since 2017. *Jamestown’s Parkhurst Recreation Area was the host for the Class A championships. The 2025 Girls Cross Country season in the Western Dakota Association showcased impressive performances and fierce competition, culminating in a dominant postseason. Williston defended its Class A title, marking the fifth crown since 2018. Bismarck Century defended its WDA Championship, led by standout runner Ruby Ihmels. The junior defended her individual title at the Class A meet with a blistering time of 17:06, making her the first Century girl to achieve back-to-back championships.

The season kicked off with Century's impressive showing at the Rusty Bucket, where they secured first place with a total of 21 points, thanks in part to a 1-2 finish from Ihmels and Jillian Lemer. Century continued to flex its muscles throughout the season, consistently placing multiple runners in the top ten across various meets. The team’s depth was evident, as they often fielded a strong contingent of competitors, including Julia Simmers, Briella Bullinger, and Audrey Echelberger, who contributed significantly to their success.

Williston also had a remarkable season, winning four meets, including the state title. It also finished second in the WDA Championship. Harley Jeannotte and Cambree Moss were standout performers for Williston, consistently finishing in the top ranks throughout the season. Jeannotte's impressive times, including an 18:04 finish at the Border Battle, showcased her readiness for competition.

Notable performances were not limited to the top teams. Bismarck High's Hannah Hintz and Nora Traynor frequently challenged the leaders, finishing in the top ten at both the WDA and Class A championships. Their contributions helped Bismarck High secure a solid third place in the WDA Championship with 88 points.

The WDA Championships held at Williston Municipal Golf Course on October 11 featured a competitive field. Century's dominance was evident as they placed seven runners in the top 20, with Ihmels leading the way at 17:51. This strong finish solidified Century's reputation as a powerhouse in the WDA. The championship race was a testament to the athletes' hard work and commitment throughout the season.

As the season wrapped up, the Class A Championships in Jamestown saw the same fierce competition. Williston's victory, highlighted by Jeannotte and Moss's top finishes, underscored their ability to perform under pressure. The results also highlighted the depth of talent across the WDA, as 14 runners earned all-state honors from various schools.

In addition to the competitive achievements, Century's Jillian Lemer was recognized as the state senior athlete of the year, and coach Kate Fox was named state coach of the year. With strong performances throughout the season and significant accomplishments at the championships, the 2025 Girls Cross Country season has set a high bar for future competitions in the WDA.
