The 2026 Girls Tennis season in the Western Dakota Association was marked by the dominance of the Minot Majettes, who finished the regular season undefeated at 9-0 in WDA play and 22-0 overall. As defending champions, Minot was the top pick in the preseason poll, garnering nine first-place votes. The Majettes showcased their depth and skill throughout the season, culminating in a successful postseason run.
The West Region team dual tournament kicked off on May 18 with Minot High defeating Bismarck St. Mary's and Bismarck Century taking down Dickinson, setting the stage for a competitive tournament. By the semifinals, Minot faced off against Bismarck Legacy, winning decisively 5-0. The Majettes continued their unbeaten streak, defeating Bismarck Century in the championship match 5-0, solidifying their status as the team to beat.
Individually, Minot's Kyllie Fettig stood out as a top performer, earning the No. 1 seed in singles at the West Region Individual Tournament. She advanced to the state tournament, where she faced tough competition but ultimately finished as the runner-up. Avy Ator from Williston claimed third place in singles, defeating Shayna Klitzke of Dickinson 6-3, 6-1 in the consolation match.
In doubles, Minot's duo of Ava Thuner and Grace Olson also showcased their talent, entering the state tournament as the top seeds. They reached the championship match but were unable to secure the title, falling to Valley City’s Skye and Kailee Nielson 6-0, 6-3. Nevertheless, their strong showing throughout the season highlighted the strength of Minot's tennis program.
Minot's success was not only a result of standout individual performances but also the collective effort of the team, which included players like Ella Sherven and McKenna Odahlen, who finished fifth in the doubles competition at the state tournament. The Majettes’ depth was evident as they consistently performed well in both singles and doubles throughout the season.
As the season concluded, Minot High School once again proved their mettle in WDA tennis, finishing with both team and individual accolades. The Majettes will look to build on their success as they prepare for the future, aiming to maintain their dominance in North Dakota high school tennis.
