MANDAN - Grand Forks Red River defeated Bismarck Legacy 2-0 in the state tournament quarterfinals, improving their record to 9-5-4. Legacy ended their season with a 16-2 overall record.
Owen Martin led the scoring for Red River, finding the net twice. His first goal came in the 13th minute with an assist from James Bryant, setting an early tone for the game.
Legacy's defense worked hard, with goalkeeper James Erickson recording five saves. However, Martin's unassisted goal in the 59th minute secured the victory for Red River.
Red River advances to face West Fargo Sheyenne, while Legacy's impressive season concludes as the defending state champions.
