MANDAN - Grand Forks Red River edged West Fargo Sheyenne 1-0 in extra time to secure a spot in the state championship. Red River improved to 10-5-4, while Sheyenne ended their season at 11-4-2.
The game remained scoreless through regulation, with both defenses holding strong. Red River's Andrew Christianson was pivotal in goal, making six key saves to keep the match level.
Owen Martin proved to be the hero for Red River, scoring the decisive goal in the 82nd minute of extra time. His unassisted strike sent the Roughriders to the championship for the first time since 2005.
Red River will face Fargo South, who holds a 1-0 record, in the championship match on October 18.
