Legacy defeats Mandan, 38-14

MANDAN - The Division AAA playoffs won't start with a bus trip for Legacy. The Sabers assured that with a solid 38-14 road win over Mandan at Starion Sports Complex on a warm October 22 night.

The victory clinches the West's No. 2 seed and assures at least one home playoff game for Legacy. The Sabers used a dominant running game to keep the Braves' vaunted running game off the field. Quarterback Weston Kraft was one of two rushers with over 100 yards on the ground. He had three first half touchdowns, including a 46-yarder and a 35-yard run. The Sabers led 21-0 before Mandan would get to the end zone on a Tate Sailer 1-yard run late in the first half. The standout ball carrier had a challenging night against the big, physicla Legacy defensive front. Mandan then recoverd the ensuing kickoff. And cashed in on the last play of the half when Cole Carlson found Daniel Wentz in the corner of the end zone for an 11-yard pass.

However, any momentum the Braves had was doused in the third quarter. Tyler Krukenberg's 25-yard field goal extended Legacy's lead to 10 points. And then Beckam Presley-McKay found the end zone on a 2-yard run. He would put a bow on the night with an 11-yard run in the final quarter and finished with over 100 yards on the ground, joining Kraft.

The seven regular season wins is a new team record. Legacy (7-2 overall/4-1 WDA), which won its first-ever playoff game last season, will now look to win one at home next Friday, Oct. 30 in the quarterfinals. The Sabers opponent is not yet determined. Mandan (5-4 overall/3-2 WDA), meanwhile, will be on the road for its quarterfinal against the EDC's No. 2 seed.
