BISMARCK - Defense and special teams showed up early in Century's WDA battle with visiting Williston. And linebacker Knoxx Wedelstedt was in the middle of things. The junior returned a fumble for a score and then recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for another before the second quarter even began. Those plays helped propel the Patriots to their first win of the season, 63-8, On Oct. 2 at MDU Resources Community Bowl. The 63 points was a season best for the squad. Century had 300 yards of total offense, 247 coming on the ground. Carter Wylde rushed for three scores. Wedelstedt capped off his great night with a TD run of his own. Wyatt Nelson caught a pass from Kaden Welstad and Alijah Piatz ran for the final Century TD. Defensively, the Pats held Williston to just 142 total yards. However, Williston didn't leave without a score. Ronald Anderson hauled in a 38-yard pass from QB Noah Rath in the final quarter. Century will look to build on this victory as they prepare to face Minot, who are currently 0-2 in the WDA and 0-6 overall, on October 9. Williston will aim for their first win of the season against Mandan, who stand at 1-1 in the WDA and 3-3 overall, also on October 9.
