MANDAN - Mandan-St. Mary's edged out Williston with a 1-0 victory in a closely contested Western Dakota Association boys soccer match on August 20 at the Starion Sports Complex. Mandan-St. Mary's improved to 1-0 overall, while Williston dropped to 1-1 in the conference and overall.

The lone goal of the match came from Mandan-St. Mary's forward Liam Gardner, who found the back of the net in the 42nd minute. Gardner collected a ball that came toward him after a corner kick. He gathered it and stepped into a shot that found the left corner of the net past Coyote' keeper Tristan Boots. M-SM had several chances to extend the lead, but Boots turned aside the chances. Williston had a few chances late to get the equalizer, but couldn't generate some grade-A looks.

Mandan-St. Mary's will look to continue their winning ways against Bismarck (2-1 WDA, 3-1 overall) on August 25. Williston will aim to bounce back when they face Century (0-1 WDA, 0-1 overall) on the same day.
