BISMARCK – The conference season opens on Sept. 26 for WDA Division AAA and AA teams. Five weeks of games to determine which four will move on to the state playoffs later this fall. Here’s a look at players who will be called on to make a difference for their respective teams.
Bismarck Century, Noah Herr: The senior quarterback has returned to the lineup following an injury and made a big impact in the Pats’ Homecoming win earlier this month. The 1,200-yard passer from a season adds a key dynamic for Century’s offense which has a balanced attack.
Bismarck High, Jayden Sayler: the senior lineman provides a steady presence on the Demons offensive line of scrimmage at center. His experience and blocking are key for BHS’ ground attack.
Bismarck Legacy, Lincoln Lemar: The senior lineman is part of a solid core of blockers and tacklers up front for the Sabers offense. His strength coupled with his athleticism make him impactful on the line of scrimmage.
Bismarck St. Mary’s, Zach Richter: The senior is on the field for nearly every snap of the ball for the Saints. The fullback provides lead blocking featured runner Beckett Price. On defense, he is leading the squad in tackles during the four non-conference games.
Devils Lake, Bryar Exner: The senior, who missed significant time last season due to injury, is one of the dynamic playmakers in the Firebirds offense. He just over 500 yards rushing on 88 carries. His size and strength are also on display on the D-side where he is part of a solid linebacker group.
Dickinson, Nathan Stevenson: the senior quarterback will be leaned to continue to be the spark in the Mavericks offensive attack. Through four games he’s completed 55 passes for 739 yards and eight TDs. He also can extend drives with his legs. He has over 250 yards rushing on 40 rushes.
Jamestown, Liam Frey: the senior has been the go-to back in the Blue Jays offensive backfield during the first half of the season. He has just under 600 yards rushing on 76 carries and five TDs. He’s going to need to be a drive extender with legs during conference play for Jamestown.
Mandan, Layton Giggee: The all-state lineman from a year ago will be called upon to provide steady blocking on the offensive line as well as pressure while on the defensive side. His teammates feed off his energy and emotion.
Minot High, Blake Anderson: The senior is nursing an injury, but hopes to return to the Magi lineup soon. He plays many key roles, including linebacker and in the backfield. He has over 230 yards rushing in three games. He also handles the placekicking duties where he has already kicked one field goal for 42 yards.
Minot North, Brayden Blikre: The senior quarterback has been a big part of the Sentinels’ unbeaten record in non-conference play. The all-region selection has passed for just over 300 yards on 22 completions in the first four games as well as rushed for five TDs. His athleticism make him a dual threat on a Minot North team that has many skilled players.
Watford City, Thayden Arnold: The senior center and three-year captain has been the glue on the offensive line for the Wolves. His blocking up front has helped enable Watford City to move the ball on the ground with regularity. Defensively, he has 13 tackles through four week of play. He’s committed to play football for Minot State next year.
Williston, Jordan Murillo: The senior left guard is a big part of the Coyotes’ line of scrimmage. His energy and positivity provide leadership to a Williston team looking to find four-quarter consistency in its play during the WDA schedule.
