TMCHS, Watford City face similar challenges this season

A shared challenge connects the WDA Division A volleyball programs heading into the 2026 season. Both TMCHS (Belcourt) and Watford City enter the fall coming off seven victories a year ago, and both rosters were reshaped by heavy graduation losses. With starting roles open and the pace and intensity of varsity volleyball directly in front of them, both squads are focused on steady weekly development to ensure they are playing their best volleyball by tournament time.

TMCHS Belcourt Braves
TMCHS looks to leverage upperclass experience and positional flexibility to navigate its lineup transition.
Key Returners: The Braves will be anchored by four experienced returners: seniors Irelei Zerr, Cassidy Azure (Zerr), and Thailyn Poitra, alongside junior Winter Day. This veteran contingent gives the squad a steady foundation on the floor.  

Team Strengths: Versatility is Belcourt’s biggest asset. With multiple players capable of producing across different spots on the floor, the coaching staff has the flexibility to adjust rotations and matchups as needed.
Areas to Improve/ Show Progress: The primary focus early in the year is rebuilding court chemistry. After graduating several regulars who logged extensive rotation time, the Braves must quickly mesh returning upperclassmen with varsity newcomers. Establishing defined roles and adapting to game speed will be essential for Belcourt to compete consistently in region play.

Watford City Wolves
The squad enters 2026 with a revamped, youthful rotation built around chemistry, effort, and two-way versatility.
Key Returners: The Wolves bring back three vital contributors with varsity experience: Nora McGorman (So.): Has stepped into an early leadership role as a sophomore, serving as a major contributor on both the offensive attack and defense.Paige Schuster: A returning varsity player who stepped in at middle hitter following an injury last season, providing a proven offensive threat and a relentless work ethic. Brielle Hance (Sr.): A senior setter who doubles as a right-side hitter, directing the offense while playing strong defense at the net.

 Team Strengths: A strong collective work ethic and tight-knit team chemistry will anchor Watford City, giving the group a reliable identity as new players step onto the floor.
Areas to Improve / Show Progress: With a very young varsity roster adjusting to the speed of the game, navigating early-season growing pains is the central challenge. The Wolves will aim for greater consistency in effort and execution from night to night. As players gain live repetitions, Watford City expects to show steady progress by expanding offensive sets and sharpening scoring threats.
